One word: Carrots. After an impromptu, adrenaline-filled morning of sport kayaking down the Riviere Rouge with Nouveau Monde, we decided to listen to our friends’ advice and hit up the nearby Parc Omega on our way into Ottawa (more on carrots below)!
We had been told numerous times about how COOL this place was and when we saw those giant letters on the side of the road we just couldn’t resist!:
Now, this is not your average zoo. This is more like Jurassic Park meets Lion Country Safari meets the wonderfully-wild Canadian outdoors, and the key to your wonderment? CARROTS. For $2.50 you can buy a whole batch at the “Park House.” We got 2 bags which was the absolute perfect amount:
With our carrots and map in hand we were off to explore the beautiful and spacious grounds that were teeming with happy, healthy and always carrot-hungry animals. It truly was a site to behold:
As we drove along the well-maintained car path, we were greeted by all sorts of furry friends! Here’s a glimpse of some of the fun we had!:
We quickly learned how important it was to keep our windows at least halfway up!
These little dudes just couldn’t get enough! I think they would have jumped into our laps if they could!
And then came the elk and the reindeer:
We did well with the windows half up for a little while, but then a button got pressed, the window went down and there you have it! Elk in our van!
Salty side-view mirrors for dessert?
Then there were the animals that you DON’T feed, like the bison, bears and the stunning white-wolf:
We caught this guy in mid-yawn:
We recommend at least 3-4 hours for this awesome, belly-laugh inducing attraction. Bring a picnic, get those carrots ready and remember, windows halfway-up! Got leftover carrots? It’s the perfect excuse to share with someone (or some animal) you love!
