Magical Moments in Lake Louise

banff lake louise, lake louise hikes, things to do in lake louise, romantic ideas lake louise, lake louise reflection, beautiful lake louise photoWe had seen our fair share of glacial lakes in Iceland, Glacier National Park and other parts of Banff and Jasper (they’re everywhere in this part of Canada!), but there was something special about this one. Maybe it was the classic architecture of The Chateau elegantly placed amongst the rugged peaks, or the site of mighty Victoria Glacier, who melts away a bit more each year, ultimately creating this oasis of beauty and reflection for us to admire and enjoy. Most likely it’s for all of these reasons, and more, that everyone who visits Lake Louise leaves with memories reminiscent of a dream.

In fact, we ended up hiking about 20 miles in one day bouncing from peak to peak and teahouse to teahouse:

This glacier silt, or “rock flour,” is what the light reflects off of, giving Lake Louise her beautiful turquoise color.

We plan to visit Banff and Jasper National Parks in July. How many days would you recommend we spend at each? We can’t do anything very strenuous as I will be halfway into my pregnancy by then, but we would definitely like to do a couple of easy hikes and canoeing.

Congratulations on your little one!! What an exciting time. Some things you can do in Jasper: Go to the base of IceField Parkway + hike the bridges along Maligne Canyon! In Banff you’ll definitely want to hike along Lake Louise + hike to the first tea house, you should be able to handle those with your little one in tow. We’d say to spend 3 days in each place if you have the ability to do so 🙂 Have a wonderful time!!

Hello guys. Based on your blog I have made up my mind to visit Banff and try the Temple Mount hike. Considering I’ll be 42 at that time I’ll be the proudest if i can make it.

Based on your experience, what’s the best place to stay in the area? I looked into The Chateau but there seems to be no available room at mid September when I’m planning to go. Thanks.

We are so glad to hear!! It’s an incredible hike 🙂 As far as where to stay, we live in our van… So to be quite honest we don’t know too much about that. What we can recommend is looking on TripAdvisor and then Google+ reviews, the reviews always provide the best insight and TripAdvisor provides the best recommendations 🙂

Hi Amber! We love your enthusiasm 🙂 While it may seem we have been everywhere, the more we travel the more we realize we have only begun to scratch the surface. For a while we used my Canon Rebel T3I, but we recently updated to a Canon 6D aka. our baby. Wishing you many adventures and stay in touch! Xox

Wow guys, looks incredible. You seem to have visited all of the places I would like to go! I’m planning a 2 week trip for next year, and have narrowed it down to Banff NP or Great Smoky Mountains NP. I see you guys have been to both, and I know they appear to be 2 very different places, but could you recommend 1 over the other? This will be the only US/Canada trip I can afford for a few years, so I want to make the right choice!

    Cheers

Paddy, you have narrowed it down to 2 incredible options!! Hands down though, Banff. It’s absolutely stunning. We visited the Great Smokies, there’s a post about it too,but what we didn’t like about it was the tourist-infested Gatlinburg, filled with neon lights, miniature golf, casinos, Dollywood and dozens of fast food chains. Banff, on the other hand, has been beautifully preserved, no chains, lots of nature and more beauty than you could ever imagine! You will absolutely fall in love with it!! Hope that helps, let us know if you need more convincing 😉

Gorgeous pictures! We’re going to Glacier next summer and I would love to visit Lake Louise since we’re up that way, but when I mapped it out it’s 5 – 6 hours away. Did you happen to come from the Glacier area and how long did it take you?

Thank you! Lake Louise is easy to make look beautiful 🙂 We drove from Glacier to Calgary, Calgary to Banff City Center and then to Lake Louise. We would say it would take 5-6 hours with out stopping, plus you have the border crossing, but we were the only ones there when we went through. It’s definitely worth the trip! Have a GREAT time!
