Nouveau Monde: Whitewater Rafting Down Canada's Epic Riviere Rouge!
Whitewater rafting is a lot of fun, but whitewater rafting with Nouveau Monde down the incredible Riviere Rouge and “The Turtle,” now that’s an ABSOLUTE BLAST:
Located just an hour away from Mont Tremblant, we arrived for our full-day rafting adventure around 9:45am. We signed our waivers, put in our lunch and dinner (steak or salmon) preferences and before we knew it we had our helmets, lifejackets and paddles in hand.
With an array of fun and fearless guides, our group was placed with “The Turtle,” aka “Terry-Joe Banjo,”a harmonica playing, folk-song singing, banjo strumming, awesome, hilarious, multi-talented river guide. What’s one thing that can make or break a trip? Your leader, and we don’t exaggerate when we say he was out-of-this-world amazing:
On top of that, our group happened to be made up of some of the coolest people from Ireland, France, Montreal and… us in our van! When we combined forces, we were nothing less than UNSTOPPABLE:
We splashed, dodged, dove, swam, kissed and triumphed over the Class I to VI rapids, finishing just in time for lunch. Fresh watermelon, a huge veggie tray and wraps of our choice (veggie, chicken, ham), we were refueled and ready to go again!
The second time down the river was even more fun because we knew what was coming. We were able to be a bit more bold with our moves, making it over some of the rapids that took us under the first time around, and then there were those rapids (the “Washing Machine”) that literally threw us for a loop!
Some of our faces are just epic here:
We finished our run down the Riviere Rouge around 5. We took hot showers, changed into dry clothes and all gathered in the cafeteria to watch the awesome video that Nouveau Monde spliced together from our epic day on the water.
Things to know:
Wear closed toed shoes or wetsuit booties.
The water can be really cold, bring a full wetsuit or rent one of theirs for $5.
Bring your GoPro, they have some helmets with mounts you can use.
Saturday is the most fun and most popular day. People will stick around all night to party, consider grabbing a group of friends and camping with the crew! They even provide breakfast in the morning.
If you’re looking for a more chill, relaxed, one-on-one experience, weekdays are the way to go.
Or if you’ve whitewater rafted before and want something a bit more thrilling, go for sport kayaking! You go down the same runs with the rafters but you get a bit wilder of a ride 🙂 We decided to give it a go and absolutely LOVED it:
No matter when you decide to go or what you decide to do, be sure to take your time and enjoy the incredible nature and people you will undoubtedly be surrounded by. Nouveau Monde truly is a special place, a Canadian adventure unlike any other… did we mention there are hot tubs? 😉
