Whether you’re into sports or not, the LA Kings Hockey Games are a great time! The LA Kings recently won the Stanley Cup last year (2012). In case you didn’t know, the Stanley Cup is the oldest trophy in Sports and said to be the most valuable and coolest piece of hardware in existence, even better than the Vince Lombardi Trophy, given out to the winner of the Super Bowl. The LA Kings play at The Staples Center in Downtown Los Angeles at 1111 S Figueroa St Los Angeles, CA 90015. Other noted teams that play in the Staples Center are the Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers Professional Basketball Teams.
When looking to attend a game, take a look at the home schedule to find out when the home games are. I highly recommend Barry’s Tickets for getting the best deal, they offer tons of tickets around Los Angeles as well. Barry’s conveniently has a ticket desk across the street from The Staples Center in the Luxe Hotel lobby where you can quickly pickup your tickets to the game by presenting your drivers license and credit card used for purchase. There is Valet parking available at the hotel for $20; this is perfect if you are running a few minutes behind and still want to catch the opening face-off. Otherwise, there is $8 to $12 parking on Olympic, parking off Figueroa in front of the Arena is $15 to $20, and just south of Pico on Figuero is $10 (my favorite, as this location is gated and brightly lit with attendants on duty). Parking is subject to price hikes for playoffs and special events.
If you are hungry before the event, be sure to check out ESPN Zone, Lawry’s Carvery, which has amazing Prime Rib and Mashed Potatoes for $19, or the other establishments within LA Live. You can enter The Staples Center easiest from the street level at the NE and SE corners off Figueroa. If the lines are long, head down Chick Hearn Ct, the small road between LA Live and the Arena, to the NW corner and enter the stadium.
Once you are in the stadium the fun begins. The atmosphere will be more relaxed if its a weak match up, but typically their is buzz in the air and excitement is flowing. If you make it to your seats before the players get on the ice, you can expect a lazer-show and big time entrance for the home team. If this is your first time to an LA Kings Game, I highly recommend you see this. There really isn’t a bad seat in the house. Sitting closer to the ice means you can see the players and feel the emotion of the game better. However, sitting near the top of the arena in the rafters means that you will be with the true fans that really know their facts and stats. Plus, you get to see the plays develop better. Don’t be surprised if the person next to you has season tickets and has been coming to games for over a decade. If you want a snack in the arena, there is plenty to pick from: pizza, hotdogs, sushi, Italian, Mexican (my favorite, go for the nachos or burrito; they let you pick 3 toppings for free).
Hockey games are much faster in person than when viewed from home on the TV. With great moves being executed from players like Anze Kopitar, Drew Doughty, Jeff Carter, and Mike Richards, I would rather be in person any day to watch a game and feel the loyalty of fans to their team; Brittany and I have been fortunate to catch a few games this season and last. My favorite rivalry is Kings vs Redwings, but second would have to be when the Anaheim Ducks come to town, nothing beats a great match up. Any game can be great, best part is that you can just enjoy yourself and take a break from the weeks grind by rooting to your hearts content. So plan a trip out with your friends, family or kids because LA Kings games are a great place to bring them too.
