Painting at UCLA
It was a beautiful Sunday morning, the sun was out and the wind was crisp, we knew we wanted to do something outside. We had gone on a 25-mile bike loop the day before, from downtown LA to Pasadena, so we didn't really want to exert ourselves on this day. We had talked about wanting to explore UCLA's campus and I had been wanting to paint for quite some time, so we decided to combine the 2! We headed off to Blick to pick up some supplies: acrylics, a painting palette, oh and some snacks from Trader Joe's too.
Once we got to UCLA we had to figure out where to set up shop. We drove around for a while and couldn’t seem to find an open area of land that was in the sun. I pulled up a map of campus on my phone and discovered Drake Stadium, map here. We parked in a nearby metered parking lot (lots 4, 6, and 7 are close by) and walked over with all of our supplies. When we got there, around 2:30, we were thrilled to find large concrete tables that we could work on and a soccer match that had just started that we could watch! It was the perfect setting, shade under the trees and sun in between the branches. We painted away at our wannabe Joey Chou pieces, ate strawberries and listened to our Capital Cities Pandora (favorite song). Not too shabby for a typical Sunday 🙂
At about 5:30, the sun started to fall behind the buildings, so we decided to close up shop and head back just in time to catch the sunset on our ride home.
One fine day.
