Biking from Hollywood to Venice + brunch at 26 Beach
Ever feel like having a lazy weekend? Well, all too often, that isn’t something we end up doing, except this weekend. I don’t think we’ve had a full weekend in LA for months, so our plan was to simply not plan.
That is until Sunday, when our friends invited us out to brunch in Venice, and the moment our minds had the chance to conjure up an adventure, they did. We decided to ride our bikes from Hollywood to Venice, for a total of 18 miles (roundtrip), full of sites – the beautiful and the odd – with the destination being friends and the delicious 26 Beach.
It took us about an hour each way, riding along Fairfax to Venice, which has a super convenient bike path all the way down to the beach. We passed loads of LA grafitti, specialty stores, coffee hangouts, surf shops and birds!
In the final stretch we made a left on Lincoln, a right on Washington and voila! 26 Beach appeared right in front of us.
As it was time for a well deserved brunch… or should I say "dunch," since we didn't get seated till about 3pm, we all ordered to our hearts' desire. Drew and our friends eyed their head turning french toast dishes from the second we walked in. They ordered and shared the #19, which is 2 ginormous french toast slices stuffed with breakfast sausage, fried eggs and American cheese, served with a side with sweet potato tots and real maple syrup… yowza!
And the Banana Bread pudding, which is more of a dessert than anything, with thickly sliced challah bread topped with sliced bananas, Madagascar vanilla ice cream and Saigon cinnamon, covered in their special burnt pecan sauce.
I was the odd man out on this venture with my Ginger Salmon Salad, which was absolutely delicious by the way, with sautéed asparagus, mushrooms & onions in a soy ginger dressing topped with black sesame seeds. Oh and you know I totally had to nap some of Drew's sweet potato tots.
After a great catch up with our friends and once every plate was licked clean, we headed out to make it home before sunset.
A week with out adventure? Never.
