9 degrees of CHILL at the Queen Mary
Did anyone else have a childhood fantasy of kissing your very own Jack on the front of the Titanic with Celine Dion blasting in the background? Either I've just shared too much... or you totally know where I'm coming from. Well, at the Queen Mary, which is the larger, sister ship of the Titanic, you can do just that! And not only on the actual ship (which you can also climb aboard), but inside the Queen Mary's Ice Kingdom, you can warm up with your honey atop the incredible frozen version of the sea liner, surrounded by more than 2 million pounds of ice! And I don't mean an iceberg.
At CHILL's opening night media event there was inter-tubing, ice skating, mechanical reindeer riding, the world's largest rocking horse and all the yummy food and drinks we could fit in our bellies. Cheers to having an excuse to totally feel like kids again!
This guy (see below) needed a tune up, he was so tame you could drink egg nog with your pinky out and not lose a drop.
Now, don't let this pretty little (huge) rocking horse fool you. For maximum fun, you must NOT hold on with your hands, see photo below. I wonder if Santa can fit this under our tree?
Yes, this is a CORN DOG PIZZA. And while you won't find it on my Christmas list, I can somehow find a way to appreciate this corny, or should I say cheesy… hybrid piece.
Once we had our fill, we decided to grab our blue parkas and make our way into the 9 degree Ice Kingdom and see what all this wintery wonderland hype was about.
After just a few short steps, we were in awe at the huge and vibrant recreations of scenes from the Nutcracker and I also became shockingly aware of the poor choice I made in wearing open toed heels… I was sure I would need to ask Santa for a new pair of toes for Christmas this year. TIP: Wear boots.
I guess you could call us nuts!
After we made our way through the incredible and icy maze, and once my glasses defrosted, we decided to warm up with a stroll on the legendary Queen Mary herself.
There was something really neat about exploring this historic ship with no one else around, imagining all those who came before and truly appreciating what a grand vessel this was and still is today. You can actually stay onboard the Queen Mary, or if you'd rather, you can come aboard for tea time at The Tea Room, a drink at the Observation Bar, an award winning meal at Sir Winston's, or if you're like us, just come aboard for the incredible views and a sense of true awesomeness.
After a night like this, we were certainly reminded of the joy that Christmas can bring. Don't just seek joy, be joy.
