Jo's, we love YOU so much! Coffee and so much more...
What a great way to wake up right?! After working at the SXSW Music, Film and Interactive Tradeshow for 5 days straight, we were so excited to finally be able to enjoy our first free morning! We headed on over to hip and funky South Congress area, also referred to by locals as “SoCo,” in search of what most would call, the best coffee shop in Austin:
We heard about Jo’s from a new friend we met at Coffee Waves in Corpus Christi, who specifically told us to order their famous Iced Turbo, a creamy, swirling masterpiece of coffee, espresso, hazelnut, chocolate and cream… WOW.
Drew was a huge fan of the crushed ice it was served with as it helped dilute the sweetness just enough, bringing the entire drink into perfect balance. He loved it SO MUCH that we went back on our last day so he could enjoy it all over again!
They also offer a drink known as the Belgian Bomber, which is half Iced Turbo and half black coffee, if you’re looking for something a little less sweet. A tempting as that was, I went for a classic cup of Jo… at Jo’s! It was absolutely delicious, a smoky roast with no bitter aftertaste, and any place that offers almond milk gets a gold star in our book!
Now for the food. Their menu was filled with an array of fresh breakfast and lunch options from tacos and salads to homemade granola and freshly baked goods:
Wanting a little bit of everything, we did just that. Drew ordered two breakfast tacos, which Jo’s gets fresh daily from a local shop called Taco Deli, known to have THE BEST tacos in Austin. They were served warm and went incredibly well with his Iced Turbo and my DELICIOUS vegan chocolate chip muffin:
We both agree that this muffin was INCREDIBLE, so moist and so rich without being too sweet. Each bite fell off easier than the next and my cup of coffee tasted so delicious in between the bites.
Perfectly complimenting my little world of chocolate and coffee bliss, I also had the delicious homemade granola parfait. Rolled oats, maple syrup, brown sugar, butter, vanilla, honey, pecans and almonds, all mixed together with a creamy mound of yogurt and cinnamon – SO GOOOOD:
Note: Jo’s has a second location downtown that has a larger menu (amazing burgers!) and indoor seating, allowing for more room to set-up shop and do your wifi thing. We loved the SoCo location not only because it’s the original and it has that awesome I love you so much wall, but because it created an awesome open-air atmosphere that no other coffee shop in Austin has to offer.
So, if you’re looking for a cool place with cool vibes, cool people, hot (and cool) coffee and delicious eats, Jo’s is by far the coolest place in town.
After getting our fill of yummies, we walked the streets of South Congress for some of people watching, local art and live music, the fact that it was SXSW only made it all the more interesting:
Note: The first Thursday of every month all of the shops along South Congress stay open till 10pm!
EYE love you Austin!!
